Honiara, Solomon Islands – The Chairlady of the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI), Ms. Namoi Kaluae, has underscored that businesses cannot thrive without guaranteed safety and stability—a critical factor for economic progress.

Ms. Kaluae made these remarks during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between SICCI and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) last week, marking a historic step toward enhanced collaboration on national security and economic development.

A Partnership for a Safer, Stronger Solomon Islands

“This partnership is more than just an agreement—it is a shared commitment,” said Ms. Kaluae. “A promise to work together for a brighter, safer, and more prosperous Solomon Islands—from shore to shore.”

The MOU establishes a framework for open information sharing, constructive dialogue, and proactive measures to tackle security challenges, ensuring a stable environment for businesses and communities alike.

Collective Action for Economic Growth

Ms. Kaluae highlighted the urgent need for unity and shared responsibility in driving the nation forward.

“With a rapidly growing population outpacing economic growth, leading to limited job opportunities, we must act collectively,” she emphasized. “Our focus must be on attracting investment, creating new industries, empowering local resource owners, and strengthening international partnerships.”

She further noted the untapped potential of the Solomon Islands, stating:

“Our nation is blessed with vast marine and natural resources - yet much remains underutilized. To unlock this potential, we need trust, cooperation, and, most importantly, a secure environment.”

A Call for Unity

Ms. Kaluae called on government, law enforcement, and business leaders to stand together in safeguarding the nation’s future.

“The private sector is the backbone of our economy - the engine of growth, innovation, and employment. But without security and stability, progress remains out of reach,” she concluded.

In his speech, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mostyn Mangau underscored the critical link between economic development and national security, stating that both are equally vital for the continued peace and prosperity of the Solomon Islands.

He emphasized that the police cannot work in isolation to ensure security and stability in the country.

“Police alone cannot address all the issues we face. “We need the active support of stakeholders to give real meaning to our role as a peace and security institution.” Mr. Mangau said.

He said the MOU not only strengthen collaboration between the RSIPF and SICCI but creating a framework for open communication and the strategic sharing of information.

Mr. Mangau said such cooperation will enable the police to better understand the needs of the business community and respond more effectively through tailored operations.

“This agreement is a demonstration of how partnerships can support the police,” he said. “It establishes opportunities for stakeholders to openly share their concerns and priorities, allowing us to strategically align our efforts to meet those needs,” he said.

Commissioner Mangau expressed confidence that the implementation of the MOU will contribute to a safer and more secure environment for businesses to thrive, benefitting not only the current population but also future generations.

“This partnership paves the way for a secure and conducive business environment — a foundation upon which sustainable economic development can be built,” he said.
