Business Operators in Auki, Malaita Province who attended SICCI Training

Auki, Malaita Province - The Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening province-based Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), describing them as critical drivers of economic growth across the country.

Speaking after the successful conclusion of SICCI’s Provincial Outreach Program in Auki, Malaita Province, Chief Executive Officer Mr. James Dolarii emphasized that supporting rural and province-based SMEs is essential for long-term national development.

“Our visit to Malaita is not just symbolic. It reflects our commitment to working alongside provincial businesses and governments to drive sustainable economic change,” Mr. Dolarii said.

He noted that the outreach initiative serves multiple purposes - among them bringing SICCI closer to its provincial members, understanding their unique challenges, and aligning development efforts with the aspirations of local governments.

“Each province faces different economic conditions compared to Honiara. Listening to our members in rural areas helps us tailor support and advocacy more effectively,” he added.

Mr. Dolarii highlighted that SMEs based in the provinces are often at the forefront of service delivery in rural communities.

Empowering these businesses, he said, would not only enhance local economies but also help reduce urban migration by creating more employment opportunities in the provinces.

“SICCI’s role is to listen, support, and provide tools for growth. Strengthening province-based SMEs diversifies our economy and uplifts communities across the country,” Mr. Dolarii said.

He also emphasized the importance of collaboration between SICCI and provincial governments.

The outreach programs provide a platform for dialogue on shared development goals and strategies to support local economic agendas.

Going forward, SICCI plans to increase its training programs and workshops tailored specifically for rural and provincial SMEs, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and resources necessary to succeed.

“SICCI is confident that with the right support, province-based SMEs can play a transformative role in shaping the economic future of the Solomon Islands,” Mr. Dolarii concluded.
